so do you mean that the first word is a cell component and the second word is camera...reaction? also, so its 4 syllables?! ...also, thank you of robbing me of sleep tonight!

Yeah, this is driving me crazy, too.

Who won the last one?

The "camera-induced" part has me completely stumped. Here's the best I can come up with:

a cytoplasm spasm?
comment by Neale on August 3, 2005

Though I did not come up with 75% of it:
hyaloplasm photospasm
comment by Drevniok on August 3, 2005

Oh man. Is that actually it? I was going with Nucleolus, and trying to make a corny phrase like You-see-all-us for the second part.

Hmm, questionable syllabification of -sm, because hie-ah-low-spah-zum would be 5, but if it's not syllabified foe-toe-spahzm would be 3. Yes, this is what linguists do for fun.

I suspect Neale's was closest, he just missed out the 'photo' part-- "cytoplasm photospasm". But then, given that 'photospasm' isn't a word, perhaps that's not right either.

I like 'ribosomic Kodakrome tic', though I realise that this is technically not very correct.

I think you're right. I also like "ribosomic kodakrome tic".

Other possibilities that are not correct at all (but I like how they sound) could be "mitochondria hypochondria" (band name anyone?) or "endoplasmic reticulum and a spastic retinal curriculum" (their first hit single?).

Andrew, I think you should win anyway. I bet even Chris hadn't thought of that.

Alex, you get points just for mentioning the endoplasmic reticulum. That was one of the many middle names that Lauren and I gave a hamster of mine. Another one was HamstER, emphasizing the -er because ER is the short way of saying endoplasmic reticulum. Yeah, we made our own fun in high school.

myelin smilin'. not four, though
comment by Chronomorph (#11) on August 3, 2005

I suspect we are thinking about this all wrong. Remember, Chris worked in the hague with war criminals and such, and where do war criminal live, in cells, and who is going to become a permanent component of his particular cell? You guessed it:
Milosevic Facial-tic

Or, cell could also refer to a cellular telephone. This opens up the possible answer of:
Faceplate Nictate.
comment by stretch on August 4, 2005

..or the last 4 words could have something to do with blinking, but that doesn't have enough syllables...
