Linguistics Whiz
Gil has recently been struggling with a linguistics assignment on 'whiz deletion', and he got me curious yesterday so I Googled it.(Gil, I don't know if Google didn't occur to you, or what, but the first result for 'whiz deletion' gives a pretty convincing explanation.)
Anyway, during my searches, I stumbled across a masterful piece of linguistic geekery. A lot of it is way more esoteric than even my linguistics-saturated upbringing could have prepared me for, but a lot of it is also pretty funny, especially if you know a thing or two about linguist(ic)s.
