Super friends

I just spent the past 12 hours on a train back from NYC. The only thing that made the time bareable was the 7 hours I spent playing Lux while listening to Sean's top 22 songs of 2005. Thanks, dudes!

I'm flattered, Bryan. Why did it take 12 hrs? Guh! Miri's not worth it.

(Miri's worth it.)

The train is supposed to take 10 hours, I think, but there were delays. It actually took over 12 hours.

I like most of the 22 and some of them are really awesome: Herman Dune, Imogen Heap, LCD Soundsystem, Amerie, Okkervil River & The Strokes. So thanks again. (Notable exceptions: Broken Social Scene.. it's like Bob Dylan yelling over white noise, and Smog... the line about black being made up of all colours ruins the song for me, despite the "fuck all, y'all"),

A lot of those songs do rule. Liked the list a boonch. The Amerie song is catchy but I'd give it 2 stars, moved me, mostly due to overplay on the net radio I listen to. As for MIA, I preferred "Bingo" and "Sunshowers" to Hombre (God, I love that album). And I can't read Okkervil River without hearing Overkill River in my mind. I think I prefer the original Ageless Beauty but that's only because it's better to play video games to. Finally, this year I heard "Can I Get A (Fuck You)" by Jay Z for the first time, so it goes on my best of 2005 list even though its ages old (98).

Don't like the Broken Social Scene? Say it ain't so!
[Bias: the drummer was in that CBC show that I used to watch.]

My tops for 2005 (like Vinny, heard in 2005 rather than written in 2005):
- Mein Kleiner Grüner Kaktus by Comedian Harmonists (Dustin's computer won't let me link to this for some reason)
- Onkel Bumba Tanzt der Rhumba by Comedian Harmonists
(You should also check out "Online Verliebt" at the bottom of the screen. It sounds like it's a song from the 30s but it appears to be about finding love online.)
- Amikejo March by Willy Huppermans

Hmm, sparse year. I could do a much better job writing about my top five trust indentures.

Just that one song "Ibi Dreams of Pavement". I'm not really familiar with the rest of their oeuvre.

Bob Dylan screaming over white noise sounds like it it would be cool if it was executed well.
[Bias: I fucked Bonhomme at the CBC]

Dylan screaming over white noise = rad. Way better than Dylan mumbling over honky-tonk.

And that colours=black is one of my fave lines of the whole album! :)

But I'm really glad that some of the stuff dingdingdinged for you: that's the hope, or the point.

Vinny - there's def. no real MIA stand-out (or rather, there is, but it seems to differ person-to-person). Also, Jay-Z rules.

Chris - I will listen when I get home from work!

"And they say black is all colours at once
So I give it my red rage
My yellow streak
The greenest part of me
And my blues..."

I think the line would work better if it started with "And they say black is the absence of all colour." and then he would be filling in the well with colour (if he's still talking about yelling into the well at that point). It would also be more scientifically correct. :)

As always, to each his own!

My only real discovery this year: http://www.pierrelapointe.com/ It has streaming audio. He's from the Saguenay via Gatineau, I think.

Because I remembered this thread:

I just found the whole Piracy Funds Terrorism album online (by MIA's Arular remixed by Diplo; it preceded Arular, however; a pre-mix?).

It's like finding out heaven has a second floor.
