I Know What I'm Watching Tonight!

...Canada's Next Great Prime Minister, in which a slew of young, hopeful sycophants will be judged by none other than....

Kim Campbell, Joe Clark, John Turner, and Brian Mulroney!!!!

And you thought you had to be ashamed of Harper and Martin! At least they aren't appearing on asinine, second-rate reality TV!

I saw Kim Campbell get interviewed on election night and I was surprised at how smart and articulate she was.

Actually, maybe I'll watch this, instead.

Finally we can do without this flawed electoral process and find a great leader with a panel of our 3 shortest term Prime Ministers and the father of the GST and NAFTA. How can anything but the best come from this?

Didn't you see the leaders' debate?

Despite my negative attitude towards the show, I did actually watch it, and was pleasantly surprised. While the shows title and format screamed Canadian Idol, the show ended up being incredibly respectable, and hopefully will raise political awareness and participation in the Canadian youth.
The contestants were from around the country each representing very different ideas of where the country should go. Ranging from the Cree woman, who believed that Canada should respect its original treaties and disband the central government allowing each city and tribe to govern itself under only on overarching Humanitarian Rights Commission. To the idea that Canada should partly nationnalise all of it's natural resources, or the idea that Canada should adopt a Presidential system.
The questions by the right honourable former Prime Ministers (there's a mouthful) were insightful and displayed the depth of thought that each of the candidates had put into their arguments.
In the end, while I disagreed with most of what each person brought forward, I was nevertheless impressed by all of them. Frankly we haven't seen this level of intelligent and far ranging political debates in the media in a long time. For a political Geek like me, it was refreshing, and I look forward to them doing it again
