Apple WWDCgasm
I don't own an iPhone, but this is a pretty sweet new feature:
There's a new feature [in iPhone OS 3.0] called Find My iPhone. . . . it will allow you to see on a map where your phone is. . . . You can send an alert tone to your phone that will play, announcing it's lost. It will play even if you left your phone in silent mode. . . . If your phone is really lost, there's a remote kill switch to wipe your phone of all your data.
I'm also super-stoked to discover that Leopard users will be able to upgrade to Snow Leopard for a measly $29. Hello, new iMac!

Fun game
Flight Control for the iPhone/Touch is a great game. For it's temp price of 99c, it's a total steal and very much worth it.

One Less Thing to Carry
Ok, I'm officially having a nerdgasm.

Readdle is a website that will store uploaded text files in a variety of formats and re-display them to you in the browser.

Why would you want to do this? Well, I recently got my grubby little mitts on an iPod Touch (I have to admit, it's been life altering) which comes with a web browser. So:

1) Make account on Readdle.
2) Grab any books from Project Gutenburg.
3) Upload them to your readdle account.
4) Login to the website via the Touch.
5) Choose a book.
6) Start Music.
7) Sit on bus and read. (Once the page is rendered, you no longer need to maintain the wi-fi connection.)
8) Achieve nerdvana.

Apple iPhone in Canada
My second thought on seeing the Apple iPhone was: When/how can I get it here in Canada? (Thought #1 was "Awesome!")

It's going to available in the US in June, exclusively with Cingular. There's no word out on Canadian carriers yet. It's a quad-band GSM phone, which means it will likely end up on Rogers/Fido. Bell and Telus both run non-GSM networks, so it's unlikely that either of them will be able to support this phone. Apple could create a non-GSM version in the future (Verizon in the US is also non-GSM), but I wouldn't hold my breath. This is their very first entry in the cellphone business after all.

Never fear though. The CRTC set the deadline of March 14th, 2007 for cell number portability between wireless carriers in Canada. This means you'll be able to switch your provider while keeping your same cellphone number. It's about damn time too, the US has had this for years now. So, whatever your situation, you should be able to get an iPhone here in Canada, with Rogers/Fido, sometime after June.

Apple finally announces the iPhone
After years of rumors and speculation, the Apple iPhone was officially announced today at MacWorld. It's an iPod, plus phone, plus camera, plus internet-device. There's just one 'real' button, with the rest of the interface being a touch screen. I admit I'm a little bit iffy on the touchscreen thing. Hopefully Apple has a killer implementation, because most touchscreen devices I've used have been sucky.

The iPhone comes with a 3.5 inch widescreen at 320x480 res. It has some kind of WiFi support, along with EDGE and Bluetooth. There's a 4 GB model for $499 and an 8 GB model for $599 (when you take a 2 year contract with Cingular). It will be available in the US in June. Full tech specs here.

It's a high-end device, with good specs and a matching price. I expect it to be a big hit for Apple.
