The state of the hardware

The funnest happening of the day (so far) was me buying a spiffy new 120GB external firewire hard drive. It was needed because uncompressed video footage (i.e. for movie making) takes up a shitload of space. I now have a total of 206GB, which should be enough for a while.

However, a kink has been thrown into my cinematic world domination plan (and not the good kink either). Mcgill education's media services, which has been the main source of digital camcorders, is closed for august. I say boooo. I looked at what it costs these days to buy one yesterday, and future shop had some real beauties for one thousand dollars. It should be noted that I don't really know all that much about camcorders, so some massive internet research on the matter will have to precede any purchase. If anyone knows a good place to buy one, or otherwise has any sort of scoop please let me know.

Knowing of the impending cameraless doom, I borrowed one for tonight in order to capture all the raw footage that had been shot but not transferred to my computer. This would have been impossible had I not gotten more hard drive space to hold it on.

In other hardware news I have been cast back into the dark ages of dial-up internet access. Broadband was shared through my neighbor and he is moving out. So my trusty 56k modem has been taken out of storage and put back into service. This also necessitated buying a phone jack splitter.
