Canada should become a leader of recycling It only makes sense for Canada to heavily research the processes of recycling. And to develop solutions and techniques for improving them. No matter how important, useful, or economic recycling is now; it can only become more so in the future. The amount of resources we have is steadily going down. As the supply eventually goes down, the demand and price go up. Reusing resources becomes more valuable every passing year. It's an area that Canada should invest in.
OK, I hope that you agree with me. So what concrete steps can Canada take? Give research grants, chairs, and funding to Canadian universities involved in the study of recycling. Give them full government support. Make it a key plank in our science policy.
Recycling includes many hard scientific problems that would assuredly be useful in other areas. Basic problems like how to clean things better, or how to easily separate materials into their base elements and structures?
