Bmac Montreal is closing

The other day I read in the Gazette that the apple macintosh reseller B.Mac has shutdown their operations, including the main montreal store. They blame it on a declining popularity of macs. In reality, the blame should be placed squarely on the bmac management. I said myself a while ago that their location would bankrupt them. They were located on the 3rd floor of the complex on St Catherines street beside the church near the Bay. This gave them a grand total of 0 window space and accompanying walk-in traffic. Which is really a shame when your products look so damn cool.

There's a page on macnn full of good comments on this subject.

Of course this could turn out to be really good news, if Apple takes advantage and opens one of their new-fangled retail stores here. That would truly be awesome.

Bmac going belly up - is it such a surprise? Bmac is bankrupt for a few simple reasons - innefficient use of floorspace, poor management and location location location. Oops is that more than 3? Having sold the founder of Bmac many of his first Macs I can attest to his love of the platform but I am not sure his love for Macs carried over to being an efficient seller of them. I Dont believe the Gazettes spin that declining market share had anything to do with the reality of what happened. Many stores are successful in Montreal, go and open an Ottawa store and then end up going backrupt. If the lessons of history had been studied , the Ottawa store would have never had opened and better, more accessable locations would have been found. As well, I think that the Apple Online store helped erode the margins too, making systems sales unequitable. Its too bad but lets hope that other retailers can learn the lessons to be garned from this failure.

I bought a G4 and a G5 at B-Mac in Ottawa. AT THE BEGINNING, the service was very good, but it slowly went downhill, so I took my business elsewhere. It's too bad, because they had a good thing going, but lack of interest on part of the owner killed the franchise.

Like a bad penny, it's back! They took out a back cover ad on 'Ici' (the same as the front page of their web site http://www.bmac.ca). The smart thing is that they've moved on the Plateau, where there's lots of creative professionals. Let's hope they've learned their lesson... or get bought out by Apple to open an Apple store.

Apple computers have not declined in popularity. What does a newspaper that lacks objetivity like the Gazettes know about computer technology.

The owner of Bmac and Brenrose solutions went through a difficult period in his life. His wife had a difficult pregnancy and the baby didn't manage to stay alive.

The loss of a son made Mr. Rosenmber lose focus and he made a few mistakes. He opened three new stores (downtown Montreal, Laval, and Ottawa), and an even worst decision was to leave many of the business decisions to his vice-president (Mark). The vice-president pretty much took over during this difficult time hiring untrained and unqualified friends, and firing experienced salesmen, consultants, and technicians. The new staff was overpaid and their constant errors in repairs and consulting brought several law suits and losses of loyal clients.

This was Bmac demise, not the popularity of Macs. The Gazette needs better reporters; they tend to print too much bias bs.

Fantastic. i have the g4 pbk the big one lol. my itunes decided that all of my music is to be sent to "itunes library dammaged" i find the 20some gigs highlight to drop back into the itunes library file...it completes the transfer however at that instance, a window apears stating that the disk cannot be read nor written to(from). then however they stay in the recently add list. but only until i put her to sleep, then square one again itunes library has an unexplained error in play back files being moved to itunes library damaged...it seems like an inconsistat goose chace. feedback? please brederen?
