EA interview

Hey Dustin,

You don't know me, but I was doing a search for EA interviews on google, and somehow your website came up. I read that you had a phone and then in person interview with EA. I also have a phone interview scheduled with EA this Thursday for Programmer. I was wondering if you would mind giving me some advice or what to expect. Was your phone converstation a technical interview or administrative.

Please respond,

Thanks

The phone interview I had was done by a HR person. It was not focused on technical aspects, although I was asked about what technologies I know, how I learn about new things, and some other stuff like that. There were also some semi-technical questions about my past jobs.

Most of the phone interview was non-technical as I remember it. The usual job interview questions, "what are some mistakes you have made?", "how do you interact with teams?", "how much money do you want?", etc.

My advice is to be friendly and confident. That also happens to be my advice for living a happy life. Good luck =)

Thanks man. If it's the way you say it is, I shouldn't have to worry just yet. Hopefully the "scout" I'm speaking to doesnt say something like "OK, now I'm gonna put on our lead programmer so he can evaluate you". BTW, I'm from NY and I'm applying for the Tiburon Studio in Florida so there may be some differences in how they hire people. Also, were you asked if you knew OpenGL well and were you ever tested on it?

Thanks

Geez man. This is scaring the shit out of me. The HR person on the phone told me 45 hours/week were usual for preproduction, and then it gets crazy around ship time. I dunno what to believe anymore...

Well, it's a good experience, right? What doesn't kill you makes you stronger, right? Who needs a life, right?

I didn't mean to scare you, if you think its something you'd really enjoy spending lots of time on, then you should totally do it. You should just know what you're getting into :)

I had the phone interview with EA yesterday too. What kind of questions did they ask for the in person interview? Thanks.
