Amy Hasten Off (and the power of titles) Amy is the newest kid on the block to have started writing a weblog. Which is nice, seeing as how she's full of book-learning and stuff ;-). I like the subtitle of it: another grad student blog also, reviews and discussions of various things that interest me It's hard to tell what a blog will become when you first get going. You may recall that Sillytech started as a skit-comedy collective. After some evolution I still can't really sum up what it's about, other then a jumble of stuff that people find interesting.
One thing that I noticed over at Amy's bloghaus is a nasty trend that seems to have infected some of the hipsters out there: completely irrelevant titles. Personally I think it's a travesty. The title of a piece should express what it's about. This makes it easy for people to tell if they are interested to skip, skim or read the full contents. Also, titles are very powerful when you're talking about search engines. When people are searching for vegan cake recipes it's unlikely that they care much about participatory culture online. Just look at the Littlest Hobo for an example of how a simple matter can become a magnet for like minded people when it's properly labeled.
2 comments but I wanna be hip! waaaa!

well, I like the whole breakfast thing, though i sort of agree. I think you should put in the breakfast thing somewhere else, if you can fit it in. | |
