Moving over to Commercial Drive

For the month of January I was living in a temporary sublet in Kitsilano, on the west side of Vancouver. On the first of February I moved into a new apartment on the other side of town. This is a good development for my further exploration of Vancouver. I got a good taste of Kits (albeit only briefly) and the downtown last month. Now I'm living near Commercial Drive, another Vancouver hotspot. My first impressions of 'The Drive' have been very favorable. Plus it's still pretty easy to bike downtown (the rain makes it less fun though), and I'm now near a SkyTrain station, so I can check that out.

I'm happy with the actual apartment that I'm staying in now, although it does have a few faults. It's a lot bigger in size then many of the other places I looked at, and I'm paying less rent too. The location is sweet, except for the fact that it's right on Broadway which is a major street. There's lots of cars and buses going by so it's somewhat noisy when the windows or balcony door is open. It's fully furnished, so I'm set that way. This prevents me from actually making it my 'real home' in some ways, since I'm not going to be buying furniture of my own and I probably won't re-decorate much. The furnishings are sufficient, but not awe-inspiring. The apartment currently carries a lingering smell of the previous tenants (they had cats). I'm going crazy with Fabreeze and scented candles for a bit to try and hit that in the bud. I signed a 6 month lease, and I'm viewing it as a temporary pad not likely to last much longer then that.

I got high-speed internet installed here, so I'm back online. Living without a home internet connection is an entirely different existence (at least for me; I do run an online business after all) and I'm glad to be back on the grid. My posting frequency should increase as a result. Yee-haw!
