Metric rocks the ballroom

metricI went to the Metric concert last night in Vancouver's commodore ballroom. It was sold out and I didn't have a ticket, but I showed up and was able to buy an extra one off a guy (for $40 - originally $25). He was about to sell it to a scalper but I interjected and he sold it to me instead since I was going to the show and he was a nice guy.

The venue was a really cool place. The commodore has a big dance floor in front of the stage, and that's all surrounded by more bar-like sections with tables. No surprise that lots of big shows seem to go on there. Plus the sound system was quite nice.

Metric themselves totally rocked. The band was on fire, and the crowd was totally into it. During some of the faster songs the dancefloor morphed into a mosh pit. It wasn't mean moshing though, so that was cool. Totally different style of dancing then the club DJ stuff I'm used to though. Variety is the spice of life as they say. Eventually the crowd tired out somewhat and continued rocking out in a slightly more mellow fashion. They gave great energy throughout, and Metric picked up on it I am sure. Singer Emily Haines was electric. Her voice is so sweet. In the encore set she embarked on a psychedelic rant about how real you should live your life. Then she got everyones hands up, jumped into the crowd, and surfed. All in all, it was awesometastic.

Go check out Metric's music if you don't know them. It's great.

Did you know they went to Toronto's premier high school for creative layabouts, Etobicoke School of the Arts? When Alison/Cristina/anybody else who went to ESA found that out, they squealed like Bishop Allen girls for several minutes.

Ho, snap, Toronto high school humour! Straight out of West Tech, bitchslices!

I did not know that, although I had some vague idea they were Canadian.

I was much more of a downtown/east-side Toronto boy. Etobicoke was not my hood. The only Bishop school I knew of was Bishop Strachan School, and I only recall it because of the humorous expansion of 'BSS' into bitches in sailor suits.
