Exemplary Art in Context
2 comments Interesting article. The W. H. Davies angle worked well, but the undercurrent of snobbery lent the article an annoying tone at times - the most glaring example being:
AS METRO STATIONS GO, L'ENFANT PLAZA IS MORE PLEBEIAN THAN MOST. Even before you arrive, it gets no respect. Metro conductors never seem to get it right: "Lehfahn." "Layfont." "El'phant."
(???) Maybe they should have picked a more patrician metro station. Haha, Americans have a hard time pronouncing french words. Seriously, what was the point of including that paragraph, other than for the author or readers to feel smug?
It's a shame that they didn't have a link to the video of the full performance.
I couldn't think of a title for the post so I used "exemplary" because it was the kind of word that the article would use and because I thought it was (for the most part) the kind of journalism that interests me most.
My favourite parts were the brief interviews with the people who walked by (or worked near) the performance.
