The illusion works like this:

There are many tones separated by octaves being played at onces for every tone you here. Your brain does not perceive all of them at once.

As the tones rise (still in octaves) your brain picks up a pattern.

When you reload, your brain prefers to continue the pattern and it perceives the higher octaves.

The illusion fails around the 5th time around. If you pay close attention you'll notice that the highest sound kind of disappears and your brain is hearing lower sounds again.
