say "no" to knee jerk environmentalism

I happened to read this opinion piece on global warming. He lays in on real thick at the end and fails to offer any solutions, but the beginning holds true. The only real way to solve humanity's carbon emission problem is to develop a replacement power engine. The solution: plough a shitload of money into a variety of fusion designs.

And the sooner a working fusion power source is going the better. Every year that passes is building up the carbon emitting infrastructure here and across the world. It will all have to be ditched eventually.

Despite what Back to the Future has taught a generation, I think the real progression we're going to see is:
-Hybrid technologies that combine electric with gas
-Hydrogen powered vehicles
-Solar power that is used to produce usable hydrogen (solar will never directly move a car, lift a crate push a train)

The first is happening now. Hydrogen is a good 25 yrs min away. Solar is probably 50-100 yrs away.

Fusion as a solution is way too hot with too much associated overhead and would likely require the one thing that solves our problem in the first place, hydrogen.

If I sound sure, I'm not. Just my best guess.

I think that we should use more human powered vehicles like bicycles and trains that burn hobos as fuel.
