An open canadian political blog
I just set up blogforcanada.com as a place to post canadian political thoughts. The next federal election will be sometime next year, so now seems like a good time to try and get involved. The only problem is that I am a little torn as to where I stand with regard to the political parties that are out there.A merged conservative party seems as if it could be a challenge to the liberals. And I am fiscally conservative, but so is Paul Martin. And while I detested the cronyism that pervaded the Chretien government, I was happy with a lot of the moves he made at the very end of his reign, like legalizing same-sex marriages and decriminalizing marijuana.
But I don't know if Martin agrees with these issues. I do know that he was absent from the last gay-pride parade.
One issue that I throw all my support behind is that of electoral reform. Canada's first-past-the-post system really sucks. Now is as good a time as any to change it.
