An online forum is a core part of any small software business

Here's an email that I wrote to the macintosh software business mailing list that I am on:
I have found that an online forum is an excellent way to get feedback straight from users. Mine is set up so that you can post messages without requiring any registration. This gives any user that may be perusing the website the chance to post a feature request or bug report or some good ole fashion thanks very easily.

It also creates a public record of how well the developer (you) treats the users. A quick browse through the forum gives a good indication of how good customer support is.

The forum is a core part of my website, and I try and drive users there as much as possible. No matter what the contents of messages, the fact that they keep appearing helps to show me that people are actually using my software. This makes me spend more time on it, which is good for everybody.
I am talking about the happening sillysoft forum.
