Fonts can cause Safari (and Sarafi-reliant systems) to crash

I just got back from helping out Dan with his computer troubles. It turns out that when he switched from PC to macintosh he copied over a whole bunch of fonts. They didn't cause any problems under 10.2, but 10.3 was a firestorm. Something about one of the fonts would cause Safari to crash as soon as it tried to show any text. A lot of other Mac OS X stuff uses Safari's core, so they would crash as well. This included Software Update, Mail, Help Viewer, Acquisition, etc.

Removing the old fonts from /Library/Fonts/ solved the crashes, and all is now well again.

I am not sure which fonts caused the problem. You should remove them all to see if that solves it. If it does then copy the fonts back a few at a time to figure out which ones are at fault.
