Bloggy Battle of Wits
So Mr. Marc and I are trying to come up with a good name for our brand new Montreal Improv blog. Your challenge is to come up with some decent names for us to choose from.

Now if it weren't illegal for us as a registered Quebec business to give away a prize without a lot of hassle, I totally would. So all you can legally get is our gratitude.

I leave it to goodladd to declare winners for the previous two battles.

Montreal Improv got a little write-up in the Mirror. Huzzah!

In other news, a new set of improv classes for beginners start at the end of January. Check out the site for all the details.

Old School
I've convinced Emerson to let me run an "Improv For Writers" workshop, on the assumption that short story writers in particular can benefit from doing the sort of character- and plot-work that improv scenes require. I'm doing a pilot version over the next two Sundays, with the hope that I can expand it next semester if it goes well.

My goal is two spend the first week (two hours) getting people broken into improv basics, and the second week (three hours) focusing more on stuff like the aforementioned character and plot.

So, since this ostensibly started as a blog about improv, does anyone have any suggestions on good exercises for complete beginners?

Improv site
I'm starting up improv classes of my own and made a site for them. I figured I'd ask you guys to do a quick check for me before advertising it around.

If you guys notice any layout glitches or typos or wording or anything that could be improved, please let me know.

The Bitter End
Dan Beirne (the one you know and love) put together a trailer for the improvised sitcom that we've been performing at Theatre Ste-Catherine on thursdays. You can check all the episodes on The Bitter End website.

Some (more) Assembly Required
Does any know any good Ottawa improv connections? My web searching got me to a workshop that was a bit small, a lot old, and awfully amateur for my tastes.

On a side note, googling "ottawa improv workshop" brings up both Without Annette's blog and Sillytech in the first two pages.

Improv Classes
Last month, Brent Skagford and I taught an intermediate class at the OFF space on St-Laurent and put on a showcase where our workshoppers dazzled the audience with their incredible improv skills. For late summer/early fall, Iím organizing a BEGINNERS class, so if youíre interested in getting on board the improv train, now would be a good time. You can check my website for more information.
