Montreal to Champaign-Urbana

Starting tomorrow I'm going on a road trip, probably lasting a week. Here's a map of the route according to Google maps:

We might be stopping in Chicago, Detroit, or Ann Arbor. Do you know any cool stuff in these places?

Deep Dish pizza in Chicago: Pizza Uno

Chicago is also the birthplace of long-form improv: Improv Olympic, Second City, etc.

If you're in Ann Arbor, don't miss the huge Border's books. It occupies an entire block & you can spend all day there. Ann Arbor is also a great town to walk around & explore.

I'm warning you now, it's a very long drive. I came through Michigan on my way to Montreal my first year. But it should be lots of fun!

There must be better deep dish than than Uno, it's a big chain! Find a little real place on a corner somewhere, it'll be awesome.

Have fun tripping dudes, and GOOD LUCK AMY!

Well, the Uno in Chicago is the original deep dish, or so the many plaques on their wall claimed. I didn't realize they made it into a chain.

They made it into an EVIL chain! One of my friends in Boston worked for them, and she arrived at work one day to find the place in the middle of being dismantled. She effectively got fired with no notice-- but it didn't actually count as 'being fired' because they were just closing that location and not actually 'firing' anyone, so technically they didn't have to give notice.

Good pizza, though.

But how could an evil chain make such a delightful card game? It doesn't compute!

Chicago says eat pizza at Dues or Giordanos.

When I was in Chicago, I was told that Uno and Due were under the same ownership. Due came--you guessed it--second.

Hey, I'm back. The trip was tons of fun. We dropped Amy off in Champaign-Urbana (the purpose of the trip - she starts graduate school there next year), I met up with some Luxers in Chicago and they took me for some beers and then yummy pizza at Uno's, we got a nice look at Ann Arbor, bought some fireworks in Indiana (and set some off - some more were smuggled back into Canada), and drove through some of ghetto Detroit. All in all it was a blast!
