Stop whatever you're doing and look at this Just when I thought I knew what cool was, Rip Slyme's Galaxy smacked me upside the head.
Rip Slyme. A hip hop group from Japan. The word Rip comes from three of their names (Ryo-Z, Ilmari and Pes), while Slyme is from a toy that was popular at the time. Also, it's a pun on "lip's rhyme".
Taken with much gratitude from LJ user Moonlightjoy!
More Rip Slyme videos available on that page.

Only in Japan does a rap video involve primary colors and puppets. I mean, really. Where's the T&A?
Oh. My. God. I think my ears are bleeding.
(Video is interesting... with the sound off.)
Bryan, do yourself a favour and don't listen to any other Japanese popular music, ever (compared to which, I'd say this was pretty tame).
Yeah, I thought the song wasn't bad, either, hence my comment to Bryan about how if he thought this was awful...
The video rocks.
There is an Israeli band called Hadag Nachash that has a similar rap-funk fusion going on, but they are much more polished and SUPER popular in the Holy Land.
And no, they don't rap about Yaweh like Matisyahu. They are actually political activists and express it in their lyrics.
