"I'm saying it should be an exhibition of good nature. I would happily go to see an exhibition of good nature any time. But what you normally get are competitive people all trying to be the best. "
I really agree with this statement. I think it's something I love about improv, there isn't a competitive nature. You're all working together to create something for someone else. It's an amazing experience to do that.
It reminds me of when McImprov tried out something Theatresports-esque at the campus bar a few years ago. It was terrible.
It was explained to me recently that Micetro, Theatresports and Gorilla exploit the failure that is inherent in improv. The scene sucked? The audience can vote it a one (or forfeit or whatever). If the improvisors receive the punishment with charisma and grace then its nothing personal and the audience and performers can get on with the show. There will always be scenes that fail so these formats put the failure out right in the open.
Calgary rocked by the way!
