Flickr Sucks Ok, not really, but their "Photos from your contacts" algorithm does. I've started getting around it by just plugging people I want to watch into my RSS aggregator, or feed reader. I've always just used it for blogs, but this is also a great way to get all the photos I was missing. There's lots out there, but I like Bloglines. You can just click the "add" button and enter in the address of whomever you want to watch. In my case, it's just:

Speaking of which, someone's already subscribed to my photos. Is it one of you guys?

I find it misses a lot of photos, and not just ones that are 5 or more back. As you know, you can have either one or only the last five of an uploaded batch show up in the "photos from your contacts" page, but it seems like it often skips random ones and sometimes there's nothing at all present from a contact's upload. I do have a couple hundred contacts, so it's easy to lose the odd picture in the mix, but it seems as though certain contacts have better luck at showing up than others.
I'm really liking the feed reader approach--it gives me small size pictures organized by author, so I have a better sense of the pic than a thumbnail and can click on the ones that interest me. It seems like less gets lost in the mix this way.
Flickr is a piece of sh*t! I regret opening a flickr account -- its so difficult to organize and share anything using their extremely confusing and poorly document interface. I HATE FLICKR!
Flickr is not that bad in comparison with a lot of other websites. It's also desinged to grow bigger. You have to think about the trade off between today's functionalities and tomorrow.
