Check out this map showing the regions in North America that are viable for wheat production, now and in 2050:

Cinema du Parc has closed =(
I just read in Adrienne's blog that Cinema du Parc has closed. Even though I don't live in Montreal anymore, this makes me sad. I always had a membership there, and saw a ton of cool movies as a result. The Hour has a write-up about it, which basically blames the AMC Forum Theatre for the Parc's demise. I'm sure that was a big factor, but I think the Parc could have survived if they handled themselves better. They were located right beside a giant group of rich McGill kids. That should have been one of their core markets, but I rarely saw much Parc advertising at McGill or around the ghetto (except for their schedules, which does count somewhat I guess).

Anyway, this post is just me shedding an online tear for the good ole Cinema du Parc. :'-(

The Rise of Slime
Altered Oceans is a five-part series by the LA Times investigating the changing conditions in the world's oceans. It goes in depth in some different areas, and the overall picture is not good. The oceans are moving towards their conditions 650,000 years ago: full of toxic bacteria, algae, and simple organisms, while lacking higher order creatures such as mammals, coral and fish.
