Petra's Call flash webcomic

Petra's Call is an innovative flash-based webcomic from Ninja Robot Dinosaur that you should definitely check out. There are 15 episodes currently, all available through the embedded flash app above.

I met the creator Shane Neville years ago in Vancouver. He since moved out to the Maritimes, but looks like he's back in Lotusland in 2010. Exciting!

The Bitter End

The Bitter End is at Mainline for another two nights of its last two live improv shows. Sept. 25th and 26th at 9pm for $8. We have a great Mirror cover story and the first internet webisode.

Out of Site
Geocities is closing down

Man, I remember opening the McGill Improv site ages ago. I think I had like 5 or 6 sites going at one point.

Usefulness
Apologies if you've seen this already — I can't remember where I found it.

Anyway, go here, install the bookmarklet, and then if you find yourself on a particularly cluttered/eye-destroying webpage, just click on it and it'll strip away all the nastiness and leave you with just the text of the page in one, easy-to-read column. Great stuff.

Website Bidness
If you're looking for a low-cost web hosting solution, so far this has been working like a charm:

www.nearlyfreespeech.net

They charge pennies for storage and bandwidth usage. And that's it. You can do the whole thing for about 10$ US per year, 9$ of which is the domain registration. The catch is that you'll need to be fairly handy with websites. If you know what you're doing and your project isn't too large, I'd definitely check it out.

I just figured out how to use google apps to get email service as well (instead of forwarding).

When a service is exactly what I want, I have no problems being a corporate shill. I hope I didn't just jinx it!

Banned Names
The Onion AV Club has just released their annual and reliably hilarious list of the year's worst band names. Among my favourites this time round:

Illectrolytes
Gestapo Pussy Ranch
Anal Hearse
Meth Teeth
Piss Pissedofferson

Check it out!

Photshop Express

Photoshop as web application. Very basic stuff but might be nice to have online access in a pinch. I already miss not having a text tool.
